A home-printed diary is a calendar and a binding job at once. The fiddly part is the second: the pages have to land in booklet order, the fold has to miss the writing, and the margins have to stay clear of a home printer's unprintable edge.

The Calendar-year diary starter does that setup. It is an A4 landscape canvas that folds to two A5 pages, with a month on every spread (the date grid fills most of the spread, with the fold between two day columns so no day is cut, and a dotted notes strip runs down the right-hand edge), a cover, and a ruled notes page at the back. The pages are put in booklet order for double-sided printing, and the fold falls between two day columns so it doesn't cut through a day. There is a Letter version that folds to half-letter pages, and a pocket diary that makes A6 pages from A5 sheets.

Who it's for

How to make it

  1. In the Layout tab open Start from a look and choose 'Calendar-year diary (Jan–Dec)' from the Home booklets group (or the Letter version for US paper)
  2. In the Calendar tab set the year and month to start from, and your country for the week start and public holidays
  3. Add or remove notes pages under Notes pages. The starter adds enough to make up whole folded sheets, and the Print tab reports the sheet count
  4. In the Print tab, under Booklet printing, check the finished page size and the edge to flip on, then export the PDF. Print double-sided at 100%, fold the sheets in half, nest them and staple the spine

Frequently asked questions

What paper does it print on?

A4 sheets for A5 pages, printed landscape on both sides. The Letter version uses US Letter for half-letter pages, and the pocket diary uses A5 sheets for A6 pages. The Print tab reports the finished page size and the printer paper size for the booklet you have.

Why are there notes pages at the back?

A folded sheet carries four pages, so a booklet has to be a whole number of sheets. The starter adds notes pages to make up the difference, and the Print tab says if any automatic blank pages were needed beyond them.

Will it print cleanly on a home printer?

The starters keep the outer, top and bottom margins at 9mm and the margin at the fold at 12mm, clear of the 5 to 6mm band most home printers cannot print, and leave bleed and crop marks off. Print the printer test page first if you want to see where your printer's edge is.

Can I make a 2027 diary?

Yes. In the Calendar tab set the year and the month to start from, and the twelve months fill in from there. A diary that starts in January 2027 and one that starts in July 2026 are the same starter with a different start.

Is the diary dated?

Yes. You choose the start year and month and the days fill in for twelve months. There is no undated version.

Which holidays does it show?

The A4 starters come with Australian public holidays switched on. Pick your own country under Country & formatting to download its holidays, or turn them off. The Letter version starts with none.

Can I put a photo on the cover?

Yes. The cover has a photo slot and a title, and the cover's title and photo sit on the right (front cover) of the cover spread.
